Negotiation Skills For Librarians Online Course
Frequently Asked Questions

How much time should I set aside each week for this course?

I suggest you set aside 2.5 hours per week comprised as follows:

  • weekly webinar (60 mins)
  • homework assignment (up to 45 mins)
  • weekly buddying sessions (up to 45 minutes) (optional)

How long do the webinars last?

The webinars last 60 minutes each and are held once a week for each week of the course apart from week 5 when there is no webinar.  In this week, working in groups (by phone or Skype), participants will apply knowledge and skills learned from the course to resolve a series of mini-negotiation scenarios and report their group's findings in Ruzuku, our private online learning platform.

What if I can't attend all of the webinars?

I would love as many participants to attend the live calls as possible so that we each benefit from everyone’s knowledge and experience however I understand that attending each week may not be possible for some participants. To support you, a recording will be available within 24 hours of each webinar for anyone unable to attend in person (and anyone on the call who wishes to listen again).

The course information mentions homework. Will this be assessed?

You will be given homework to do each week which is designed to deepen your learning and help you embed the skills you have learnt into your working practices. There is no formal assessment of homework.  You will be asked to share your homework with your course-mates in our private virtual learning environment so that we all benefit from each others' insights.  I will read all contributions, make comments where appropriate and respond to any questions.

What's involved in the 'buddying' system?

The course offers optional weekly ‘buddying' sessions. Many previous delegates found these sessions to be a hugely enjoyable and rewarding part of their online lerning experience as they offer the opportunity to connect with one another, share experiences and If you choose to take part, you will be paired with a different course-mate each week. You can then arrange to meet by phone, Facetime or Skype at a mutually convenient time and explore the key learning points from the week's webinar, and share any thoughts and issues you may have. The buddying system is designed to deepen your learning and give you the opportunity to connect one-to-one with your course-mates. Many participants found this element of the course highly enriching and rewarding.

What payment options are there?

If you are paying for yourself, I will send you an invoice including bank transfer details plus links to secure online credit card or PayPal payment facilities. If your institution is paying, you can request an invoice, which will include details of online credit card, PayPal and bank transfer options, and will be sent to the person responsible for payment within your institution.
